Dhaka, Jan 21 (V7N)— Renowned actress Nipun Akhtar has been permanently expelled from the Bangladesh Film Association (BFA) following a unanimous decision made at the association's executive council meeting last Sunday. The news was confirmed to the media by BFA Vice-President and actor DA Tayeb.
The expulsion stems from allegations that Nipun made fabricated statements using the association's official pad without authorization. On July 16, 2024, Nipun reportedly issued a statement regarding the anti-quota movement, referring to herself as the "former" general secretary of the BFA. She subsequently posted the statement on her Facebook page on July 17, sparking widespread controversy on social media.
In response, the Misha-Dipjol-led committee addressed the issue in the sixth meeting of the association on July 30, 2024, and decided to serve Nipun a show-cause notice for her actions. However, Nipun reportedly ignored the notice, leading to the association's decision to expel her permanently.
This is not the first controversy involving the actress. She was previously accused of making derogatory remarks about the current general secretary, Monowar Hossain Dipjol. At that time, the executive council issued her a warning for violating the association's constitution.
Nipun's expulsion marks a significant moment in the ongoing disputes within the Bangladesh Film Association, drawing attention from both industry insiders and the public.
