Dhaka, Jan 27 (V7N) — Popular actress Parimoni expressed her full confidence in the judicial system, saying, "I hope I will get justice," after surrendering to the court on Monday morning in a case filed by businessman Nasir Uddin Mahmud. The case accuses her of assault, vandalism, and issuing threats.
Appearing in court at 10 a.m., Parimoni's lawyer, Nilanjana Rifat Suravi, submitted a bail application on her behalf. Following the hearing, the court granted her bail upon a bond of 1,000 taka.
Speaking to reporters after her release, Parimoni stated, "I have achieved a victory by getting bail, and I will achieve the ultimate victory by being acquitted in the case."
Her lawyer highlighted the legal complexities, stating, "While Parimoni's case was ongoing, businessman Nasir Uddin filed this case. Two cases cannot proceed simultaneously. We will challenge this in the High Court."
The trial against Parimoni formally began on Sunday when the court framed charges against her. The development followed an arrest warrant issued on Saturday after she failed to appear in court due to illness. Her lawyer had requested an extension, which was denied, leading to the cancellation of her bail.
The court has set March 20, 2025, as the date for recording testimony in the case.
The legal dispute traces back to June 8, 2021, when Parimoni alleged an attempted rape at the Dhaka Boat Club in Birulia, Savar. Her public revelations on Facebook and subsequent press conference sparked nationwide attention. Following the allegations, businessman Nasir Uddin, a member of the boat club's executive committee, was arrested and later released on bail.
While the trial in Parimoni's case was ongoing, Nasir Uddin filed a counter-case on July 6, 2022, accusing Parimoni and three others of assault, vandalism, and intimidation. This counter-case has now progressed to the trial phase, with the court ordering proceedings to continue against the actress.
Parimoni's legal team remains optimistic, with plans to seek intervention from the High Court to address overlapping legal proceedings.
