Beginning on Saturday, the Bangladesh Metro Rail authority will operate trains every eight minutes during peak hours, raising the daily trip count to 178 from 152.

Right now, trains depart every 10 minutes during peak travel times and every 12 minutes during non-peak travel. The updated schedule is only in effect during peak hours.

The Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) managing director, M A N Siddique, disclosed this information on Thursday afternoon during a news conference held at the Metrorail Authority headquarters.

He stated that there will be 178 train journeys every day instead of the previous 152.

Metrorail headways, or the interval between two trains, are now two minutes shorter. Metrorail will run on the revised timetables starting on Saturday.According to Siddique, there are presently 2.70 lakh people carried daily on average by metro trains.

According to Siddque, three trains would depart from Uttara on Saturday between 7:10 and 7:30 in the morning. This off-peak is unique. The train will thereafter depart every eight minutes during peak hours, which are from 7:31 to 11:48. Following that, 11:49 a.m. until 3:12 p.m. during off-peak hours, as per the previous 12 minutes. Between 3:13 and 8:00 p.m., during peak hours, trains will depart every eight minutes.

On December 28, 2022, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina publicly opened Dhaka's first metro train. A metro train was traveling from Uttara to Agargaon at the time. 

On November 4 of last year, the prime minister later dedicated the Agargaon to Motijheel segment of the Metro Rail. On November 5, the next day, metro train service between Uttara and Motijheel began.
