Dhaka, Dec 20, (V7N) - Marina Tabassum, an internationally acclaimed architect recognized for her significant contributions to the architectural field, has been appointed as the new chairperson of the Bangladesh National Museum's governing body. The announcement was made by Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, the Cultural Affairs Adviser to the interim government of Bangladesh, on Thursday. Tabassum's appointment has been lauded as a significant step towards the modernization and enhancement of the museum.
Tabassum, who was named one of Time magazine’s 100 most influential people of 2024, is known for her innovative approach to architecture and design. Her global recognition is reflected in numerous prestigious awards, including the Soane Medal from the United Kingdom, the Gold Medal of the French Academy of Architecture, and the Arnold Brunner Prize from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. She is also a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (RSA) and has been honored as a Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters by the Government of France.
Farooki expressed his excitement about Tabassum’s leadership potential, emphasizing her deep understanding of global trends in museum development and her appreciation for Bangladesh’s rich history and cultural heritage. He described her as a person who is well-aware of both the international museum landscape and the present-day challenges and opportunities within Bangladesh. According to Farooki, Tabassum’s vision for the National Museum will help modernize it into a place of global prominence, making it a must-visit destination for both local and international audiences.
