On the Himchori beach in Cox's Bazar, a dead Irrawaddy dolphin has surfaced. At six feet long, the dolphin weighs around 120 kilograms.

On Sunday morning, February 25, the dead Irrawaddy dolphin came to the surface.

This was confirmed by Tariqul Islam, senior scientific officer of the Bangladesh Marine Research Institute (BORI). He said that a dead Irrawaddy dolphin, around six feet in length and approximately 120 kilograms in weight, had washed up on Cox's Bazar's Himchhari beach. The dolphin appeared uninjured, although there was a little wound on its back legs.

Scientists at the Bangladesh Marine Research Institute stated, "We are trying to find the cause of death." News of the deceased dolphin reached the forest department. At their cost, it will be interred.

Four deceased mother turtles visited the beaches of Hazampara in Teknaf and Daryanagar in Cox's Bazar, in addition to dolphins. Of the Olive Ridley species are the turtles.

Two dead dolphins were discovered earlier on February 16 in Patuartek beach, which is 26 km south of Cox's Bazar city, and Sonarpara beach, which is 18 km south of Cox's Bazar city [1].

On February 17, a dolphin's corpse was discovered at Himchari beach, which is 8 km south of Cox's Bazar city. The day before, a porpoise was discovered at Sugandha Point beach within the city.

Protected species in Bangladesh include dolphins, porpoises, and sea turtles, according to the Bangladesh Wildlife (Conservation and Security) Act 2012. It is illegal to hunt, consume, transport, or sell their organs.

At least 85 dead sea turtles have washed up on beaches this season in Cox's Bazar city, Ramu, Ukhia, Teknaf, Saint Martin, and Sonadia, according to oceanographers.

However, the reason behind the abrupt deaths of so many protected creatures in Bengal's Cox's Bazar Bay, like as porpoises and dolphins, is still a mystery to biologists. As per Professor Dr. Touhida Rasheed, Director General of the Bangladesh Ocean Research Institute (Bori), the issue would be thoroughly examined.

Forensic samples have already been gathered, he added, to look into the cause of death. Only after getting the forensic report can the precise cause of death be revealed. The presence of any significant issues with the animals' environment is also being looked at.
