Rangamati, Jan 20, (V7N) - Former Ambassador and retired Army officer Major General Anup Kumar Chakma has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Development Board. The appointment was made through a gazette notification signed by Abul Hayat Mohammad Rafiq, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration's Contract and Foreign Appointment Branch, on Monday. The notification was issued under the authority of the President.
 
According to the notification, under Section 6(2) of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Development Board Act, 2014, Major General (Retd.) Anup Kumar Chakma, NDC, PSC, has been appointed as Chairman of the board for a two-year term, effective from the date of joining, with the rank of a government secretary and financial benefits. He is required to relinquish any other profession, business, or government, semi-government, or private organization roles during this term.
 
It is known that Major General Anup Kumar Chakma, a native of Rangamati, served as Bangladesh's Ambassador to Myanmar from 2009 to 2014.
