Teknaf, Feb 11, (V7N) – In a disturbing turn of events, the Arakan Army (AA) has allegedly abducted four Bangladeshi fishermen, along with their trawler, at gunpoint from an area near the Naf River estuary in Teknaf Upazila, Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh.
The incident unfolded at approximately 11:40 am On Tuesday, February 11, near Shahpori Dwip in Sabrang union. According to Lieutenant HM Sartaj Bin Sohrab, commander of the Coast Guard's Shahpori Dwip Station, the fishermen were engaged in their usual fishing activities when armed assailants approached in a speedboat from the Myanmar side.
The abducted individuals have been identified as Md Hasan (30), Abdu Rokim (20), Md Jaber (26), and Md Hasan (16), all residents of Sabrang union. Details surrounding the motive remain unclear, though this incident has raised concerns about the safety of local fishermen operating near the Bangladesh-Myanmar border.
