Dhaka, Dec 14 (V7N) — Police have arrested a man based on the registration number of the motorcycle allegedly used in the shooting of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson and Dhaka-8 independent candidate Sharif Osman Hadi.
The owner of the motorcycle, Abdul Hannan, was arrested from Mohammadpur in the capital late Saturday night. Deputy Commissioner (Media) of DMP, Talebur Rahman, disclosed the information to reporters at the DMP Media Center on Sunday morning.
DC Talebur Rahman said that immediately after the attack, police inspected the scene and collected CCTV footage from surrounding areas. The footage is currently being analyzed to identify those involved in the incident. Law enforcement agencies are conducting raids at multiple locations to arrest the attackers.
He added that no formal complaint has yet been filed by the victim’s family, but the investigation is continuing independently.
According to police, after analyzing CCTV footage from around the scene, RAB handed over Abdul Hannan to Paltan Police Station, mentioning the motorcycle’s number plate. Police are now investigating whether Hannan had any direct or indirect involvement in the attack.
When asked whether the shooter may have fled across the border, the DC (Media) said,
“We do not have any such information at this moment. Operations are ongoing at all possible locations, and our detective units remain on high alert.”
Addressing concerns about targeted killings, Talebur Rahman said police do not currently see evidence of a “target killing pattern.” However, he noted that security measures have been strengthened considering all possible scenarios.
“There is no reason for panic. We are continuously working to further improve the law and order situation,” he said.
It may be mentioned that Sharif Osman Hadi was shot in the Bijoynagar Box Culvert area of the capital on Friday (December 12) afternoon. Since the incident, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has been conducting citywide operations to track down those responsible.
Osman Hadi is currently undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Evercare Hospital, where his condition remains critical.
