Dhaka, Dec 20 (V7N)- A one-day national mourning is being observed today (Saturday) following the death of Inqilab Manch spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi. As part of the observance, the national flag is being flown at half-mast at all government, semi-government and autonomous institutions, educational institutions, public and private buildings, as well as Bangladesh missions abroad.
The national mourning was announced by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus in an address to the nation on Thursday night (December 18), expressing deep sorrow over the death of Sharif Osman Hadi.
Meanwhile, Hadi’s body was brought back to the country on Friday (December 19) at around 6:00 pm and kept in the cold storage of the National Heart Institute. Upon arrival at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, several political leaders were present to receive the body, including BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed, Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar, NCP Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain, NCP southern chief organizer Hasnat Abdullah, and Industry Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan. The body was immediately transferred to a freezing van.
According to Inqilab Manch, Sharif Osman Hadi’s body will be taken to the Dhaka University Central Mosque on Saturday. His janaza will be held after Zohr prayers at the South Plaza of the National Parliament Building. He will later be laid to rest beside the grave of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam in the Dhaka University area.
Sharif Osman Hadi was critically injured after being shot by miscreants in Bijoynagar in the capital on February 12. He was initially treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, later transferred to Evercare Hospital, and subsequently taken to Singapore General Hospital for advanced treatment. Despite prolonged medical care, he eventually succumbed to his injuries.
