DHAKA, Mar 11, (V7N) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) today issued a clarification regarding a letter sent by the opposition leader to the foreign minister, rejecting media claims of any related phone conversation involving Jamaat leaders.
In a statement, the ministry said Dr Mohammad Mahmudul Hasan, acting as foreign affairs adviser to the opposition leader, electronically sent the letter to the foreign minister on February 22, 2026, and later personally handed over the same letter written on the official letterhead of the opposition leader in the National Parliament.
The letter recommended Hasan’s appointment as an adviser to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the rank of adviser or minister, citing his competence and role as foreign affairs adviser to the opposition leader. The ministry noted that the letter bears only the opposition leader’s signature.
MOFA further stated it is prepared to make the full text of the letter public, provided the opposition leader gives written consent.
The ministry categorically rejected a newspaper report claiming that Jamaat leaders had directly contacted the foreign minister by phone regarding the letter. “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs clearly states that no such phone conversation took place,” the statement said.
