Dhaka, Nov 24 (V7N) – Senior BNP leader Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan has expressed gratitude to the interim government for forming a new Election Commission (EC), calling it a significant step towards ensuring a fair and credible election.
"We appreciate the interim government's commendable initiative. Establishing the Election Commission is perhaps their most pivotal reform," Dr. Moyeen stated on Sunday while speaking to reporters at the grave of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman.
Reform and Responsibility
Highlighting that reform is a continuous process, he noted, "Reforms initiated today will inevitably need adjustments in the future."
Dr. Moyeen attributed the current government's mandate to the student-led mass movement, emphasizing its role in transitioning the state from dictatorship to democracy. He urged the government to prioritize holding credible elections after implementing essential reforms.
Support and Expectations
The BNP leader reaffirmed his party's support for the interim government, urging them not to delay elections unnecessarily. "We expect timely elections that restore the voting and other fundamental rights of the people," he said.
He also expressed optimism that a representative parliament and a government truly reflecting the people's will would emerge from the upcoming national election.
Tribute to Ziaur Rahman
Dr. Moyeen, accompanied by BNP Chairperson’s adviser and former UK chapter BNP president Mahidur Rahman, paid homage to the late Ziaur Rahman by laying a wreath at his grave. They also offered fateha and prayers for his departed soul.
