Dhaka, Nov 30 (V7N) — BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has departed for the United Kingdom on a 10-day visit. He left Dhaka on Saturday morning via Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight BG 201 at 8:20 am. His return is scheduled for December 11.

Shairul Kabir, a member of BNP's media cell, confirmed the Secretary General's departure. Mirza Fakhrul arrived at the airport at 7:17 am before boarding the flight.

During his visit to London, Mirza Fakhrul is expected to meet BNP’s acting chairman Tariq Rahman. Discussions between the two leaders will focus on the current political situation in Bangladesh, the progress of reforms related to the interim government, and strategies for the upcoming elections. He will also attend various party programs during his stay.

BNP sources indicate that party Chairperson Khaleda Zia is expected to travel to the UK for medical treatment following Mirza Fakhrul’s return. She will initially seek treatment in the UK and may proceed to the United States for further medical care. Preparations for her travel are currently underway.

The visit by the BNP Secretary General and the potential overseas treatment of Khaleda Zia come amidst heightened political tensions and critical discussions on the future of the country’s governance.
