Dhaka, Dec 27 (V7N) — Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has expressed grave concern over the fire that devastated Building 7 of the Bangladesh Secretariat in Segunbagicha, causing significant damage to critical documents from several ministries. The party has called for an objective and impartial investigation into the incident.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Jamaat Secretary General and former Member of Parliament Professor Mia Golam Parwar described the Secretariat as the "heart of all administration in the country" and questioned how such a catastrophic fire could occur despite round-the-clock security measures.
"We cannot comprehend how a devastating fire could break out in a location with 24-hour security. It is essential to investigate whether this was an act of sabotage or a result of negligence," said Golam Parwar.
The Jamaat leader raised concerns about potential foul play, stating, "The countrymen believe conspirators may have deliberately targeted the center of administration to disrupt peace and order. The role of the concerned government departments in this incident must also be scrutinised."
He further urged the interim government to prioritise transparency and accountability. "An impartial investigation is crucial to uncover the mystery behind this fire and to take strict legal action against those responsible. The interim government must remain vigilant in fulfilling its duties to the people."
The fire, which broke out on Wednesday, has raised widespread alarm about the safety and security of critical administrative infrastructure in the country. Authorities are yet to release a comprehensive report on the cause of the fire.
