Dhaka, Jan 10 (V7N)— BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury dismissed discussions about a so-called "minus-two" rating related to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's recent foreign trip, stating that such speculation is unfounded and irrelevant.
Speaking to reporters after paying homage at the grave of the party's founder, Ziaur Rahman, on Friday, Amir Khasru said, "If someone speculates about a minus-two scenario, it is their problem. Such aspirations will not be fulfilled in this lifetime." He was joined by other BNP leaders and affiliates who had recently returned from the United States.
Amir Khasru reiterated BNP’s resilience, asserting, "BNP is a very strong party today. Many have attempted to engineer situations like One-Eleven during the time of Ershad, but they have failed."
Highlighting the contributions of BNP leaders abroad, he said, "Those participating in the anti-fascist movement from abroad have made significant sacrifices over the past 16 years. Despite being away, their families in the country have faced immense suffering."
He further mentioned the party's commitment to electoral and democratic reforms, stating, "We will discuss the July declaration. Elections will be the first step in restoring democracy, and we must keep all records of our movement intact."
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia left for London on January 8 for advanced medical treatment and was admitted to The London Clinic. Her health remains a matter of concern for the party and her supporters.
