Dhaka, Jan 11 (V7N)— BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has strongly condemned the government's decision to increase taxes on over 100 products, calling it "suicidal" and harmful to the public. He warned that this move would erode public trust in the Yunus-led government and exacerbate financial pressure on low-income households.

Speaking at a press conference at the BNP central office in Nayapaltan on Saturday morning, Rizvi said, "The decision to increase the tax from 5 taka to 15 taka is a clear indication of the government's misguided policies. It will create unbearable hardship for people with limited income."

Rizvi also criticised the recent revisions to school textbooks, alleging political bias. He claimed that the changes omitted critical historical facts while selectively promoting others. "Awami League allies have distorted history to record Sheikh Hasina's statements, but the textbooks fail to include the truth about Baksal and the one-party rule of Sheikh Mujib," he said.

Refuting allegations against BNP founder Ziaur Rahman, Rizvi stated, "Ziaur Rahman founded BNP as the elected president at Ramna Restaurant, not in an army camp. These fabricated narratives need to be addressed, and justice must be served."

The BNP leader reiterated the party's commitment to opposing such "anti-people policies" and demanded a rollback of the tax hike and fair representation of history in educational materials.
