Dhaka, Jan 16 (V7N) — BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has accused India of spreading misinformation about Bangladesh and attempting to influence the political landscape by supporting Sheikh Hasina. He made these remarks on Thursday while assisting the families of martyrs of the July-August student uprising in Badda, Dhaka, following instructions from BNP’s acting chairman, Tarique Rahman.
Rizvi alleged that India perpetuates false claims of minority oppression in Bangladesh and has erected barbed wire fences out of what he termed a "hegemonic mentality." He suggested these actions are part of an effort to bring Sheikh Hasina back to power.
Highlighting allegations of corruption, Rizvi accused Sheikh Hasina of laundering money to benefit her family, claiming she owns luxurious properties abroad and questioned the source of her assets, including a 60-katha plot in Purbachal.
He criticised the government for blocking free and fair elections, calling for an interim administration to pave the way for a credible electoral process. "Power must be transferred to political forces as soon as possible to resolve the country's instability," Rizvi said.
Additionally, he demanded that the interim government ensure employment for at least one member from each martyr’s family as a gesture of support.
The BNP leader reiterated his party's commitment to political change, emphasising the need for an election free from interference to address the ongoing crisis.
