Dhaka, Jan 24 (V7N) – BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas has cautioned against attempts to label the BNP as an agent of India or an ally of the ruling Awami League, stating that such actions would not lead to favorable outcomes.
Mirza Abbas made these remarks on Friday morning while attending a prayer meeting in Nayapaltan, organized to mark the 10th death anniversary of Arafat Rahman Koko, the younger son of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
"Those trying to push BNP into a different camp will face consequences they cannot imagine," he warned, emphasizing that such allegations are baseless and aimed at tarnishing the party's image.
The BNP leader also commented on the formation of new political parties, saying, "We welcome those who form a new party through a democratic process. However, any effort to divide the country or the democratic process will not be accepted."
Expressing concern about the political landscape, Abbas said, "If there is a division in the country after August 5, democracy will never find its way back." He urged political leaders and citizens to remain vigilant in safeguarding democratic values.
Responding to statements from government advisors alleging that "BNP is once again playing the role of 1/11," Abbas dismissed the claims. "No one bore the brunt of the 1/11 regime more than the BNP," he said, referring to the 2007 military-backed caretaker government that significantly impacted the party.
The BNP has repeatedly accused the current government of attempting to divide opposition forces and disrupt democracy, as the country gears up for its next general election. Abbas’s comments reflect the party’s ongoing narrative of resilience in the face of political challenges.
