Dhaka, Jan 25 (V7N)— BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi accused the interim government of trying to gain support through threats reminiscent of the 1/11 political change. He stated that the BNP has survived through struggles and would not be intimidated by such tactics.
Speaking at a Milad and Doa Mahfil to commemorate the 10th death anniversary of Arafat Rahman Koko at the BNP central office in Nayapaltan, Rizvi stressed the need for transparent and fair elections.
“The people demand elections based on consensus, which Sheikh Hasina's government has consistently denied. BNP has always stood for free and fair elections, advocating for the restoration of voting rights,” Rizvi said.
He accused the government of tarnishing the BNP’s image through propaganda and likened their behaviour to the 1/11 government. Rizvi further alleged that the government’s approach to local elections reflects an international master plan.
Commenting on the state of the economy, he said, “Factories are closing, and the economy is deteriorating due to the government’s negligence towards public welfare.” He urged the government to focus on reforms and fulfil the people's aspirations.
Rizvi reiterated BNP’s commitment to democracy, stating, “BNP believes the government must ensure fair elections and, if necessary, consult political parties and implement legal measures to protect democracy.”
Reflecting on the historical significance of student and public movements, Rizvi dismissed civil society’s criticisms, stating, “The contributions of students, the public, and political parties cannot be ignored in shaping the nation's democratic journey.”
