Dinajpur, Jan 25 (V7N) — Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has urged the interim government to publish a comprehensive list of individuals responsible for oppressing people of different religions over the past 53 years. Speaking at a workers' conference in Dinajpur on Saturday, he emphasised that such a task could only be accomplished under a neutral government.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman criticised the country’s ongoing issues, stating, “Fascist-like land grabbing, extortion, and looting are rampant. No leader or activist of Jamaat-e-Islami or Chhatra Shibir has been involved in such activities.” He called upon the interim government to take decisive action against those responsible for land grabs and looting.
He also accused previous administrations of misleading the public in the name of development. “Development projects were carried out with bamboo instead of rods and ash instead of cement,” he alleged. Referring to remarks by Awami League leader Obaidul Quader about fears of violence, he countered, “Not even five leaders or activists have been killed, as the people of this country value peace and stability.”
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman further criticised the state of the judiciary under previous governments, claiming it had been politicised. “The judiciary was sent into exile, and judges admitted to being sworn politicians. Lawyers who protested were harassed,” he added.
The Jamaat-e-Islami chief urged the interim government to focus on reforms and ensure justice for all citizens.
