Dhaka, Jan 27 (V7N)— The political landscape in Bangladesh took a notable turn as BNP and the Islamic Movement of Bangladesh (Islami Andolan Bangladesh) reached a 10-point agreement following a high-profile meeting at the Islamic Movement office in Purana Paltan, Dhaka, on Monday.
The meeting was held just days after Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Dr. Shafiqur Rahman met with Islamic Movement Amir and Charmanai Pir Syed Rezaul Karim in Barisal. Despite differing views on various Islamic issues, this series of meetings has drawn significant attention in political circles.
The BNP delegation, led by Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Vice Chairman Barkatullah Bulu, arrived at the Islamic Movement's office at 12:17 PM. The Islamic Movement was represented by its Ameer Syed Rezaul Karim, senior presidium member Maulana Syed Mosaddek Billah Al Madani, Secretary General Hafez Maulana Yunus Ahmad, and other top leaders.
The two-hour discussion concluded with a joint press briefing where both sides emphasized unity against what they described as "fascist forces" led by the ruling Awami League.
The key decisions made during the meeting include:
1. National Unity: Collaborate to establish an independent, sovereign, democratic welfare state free from external dominance and imperialism.
2. Justice Reform: Bring corrupt individuals, terrorists, and money launderers to justice and ensure exemplary punishment.
3. Human Rights: Build consensus to safeguard all human rights, including voting rights.
4. Fair Elections: Implement essential reforms to ensure free, fair, and credible elections.
5. Economic Stability: Address rising prices, uphold the rights of marginalized communities, and restore law and order
6. Unified Opposition: Work together to rebuild the nation and counter the Awami League's governance.
7. Avoid Internal Conflict: Refrain from attacking or criticizing each other publicly.
8. Future Safeguards: Prevent any future rise of fascist forces similar to the Awami League.
9. Sharia Compliance: Avoid decisions or statements that contradict Islamic Sharia.
10. Administrative Reform: Remove Awami League allies embedded within the administration.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir termed the discussions "fruitful," highlighting the need for collaboration among anti-fascist forces. Islamic Movement Ameer Syed Rezaul Karim reiterated the importance of aligning political strategies with Islamic principles.
This development marks a significant step towards forming a united front against the ruling Awami League, with both parties pledging to work together to achieve their shared goals.
