Naogaon, Feb 2 (V7N) – Election Commissioner Brigadier General (retd) Abul Fazal Md. Sanaullah has acknowledged the lack of public confidence in the electoral system and stated that the Election Commission (EC) is actively working to restore it.
Speaking to reporters on Sunday afternoon, after a meeting with data collectors, supervisors, and new voters at the Naogaon District Administration conference room, Sanaullah emphasized that the EC is committed to ensuring free and fair elections, allowing voters to elect their preferred representatives without obstacles.
Accurate Voter List a Priority
Sanaullah stressed that a transparent and credible election requires an accurate voter list. To achieve this, the EC is conducting a door-to-door voter list update, ensuring that all voter data is verified and error-free.
“The first step in organizing a model election is preparing an accurate voter list. This time, we are collecting voter data directly from their homes to eliminate past errors and criticisms,” he said.
Awami League's Election Participation
When asked whether the Awami League would be able to participate in the next election, Sanaullah clarified that the decision depends on political consensus and not the Election Commission.
“Election participation is a political issue. If a party is registered and fulfills the necessary criteria when the schedule is announced, the decision will be made accordingly.”
Officials Present
The meeting was attended by:
- Naogaon District Commissioner Abdul Awal
- Superintendent of Police Shafiul Sarwar
- Other administration and election officials
The Election Commission remains determined to ensure that the upcoming election is a model of transparency and fairness, with full public trust in the process.
