Dhaka, Apr 20 (V7N)- The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) held a crucial meeting with the National Consensus Commission on Sunday as part of the ongoing dialogue regarding political and institutional reforms in the country. A five-member BNP delegation, led by party Standing Committee Member Nazrul Islam Khan, participated in the discussions.

The meeting began at 11 a.m. at the LD Hall of the Parliament House.

Ahead of the meeting, Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed spoke to reporters, stating that BNP had reviewed and internally discussed points of disagreement raised during the previous round of talks held last Thursday. He said the party was now ready to present its final position to the commission.

“BNP is cooperating with the Reform Commission with complete transparency and sincerity,” Salahuddin said. “We expect to conclude our discussions on reforms today.”

He also emphasized that today's agenda includes key structural issues, especially concerning the constitution, judiciary, and executive branches, which the party considers crucial for ensuring democracy and good governance.

The dialogue with the Consensus Commission marks a pivotal stage in national efforts to establish a comprehensive roadmap ahead of the next parliamentary elections. BNP has been vocal about the need for reform and has consistently demanded structural changes in the governance system, including an overhaul of electoral mechanisms.

The outcome of today’s discussions may significantly shape the political climate in the coming months.
