The country's people's rejection of the Awami League government was symbolised by the election without voting: Moyeen Khan.

Bangladesh Nationalist party BNP senior leader Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan praised voters on Sunday January 7 for not attending to the polls, claiming that their party's appeal to boycott the "unilateral" national election was successful.

Speaking with reporters at his home in Gulshan, he added that this election without voting represented the nation's rejection of the Awami League government.

"For the only reason that they have never compromised on the principle of democracy, I salute the people of Bangladesh on behalf of not just the BNP but also all 62 political parties that abstained from this ridiculous election. The BNP chief added, "They didn't do this this time either.

Declaring that images captured by the media tell a story, he mentioned that thousands of images have already been uploaded to social media. "You can see pictures of dogs standing, lying down and basking in the sun in front of the polling stations in the absence of voters."

"Voters were hardly present in the majority of polling places. Thus, the BNP leader declared, "Our call for the boycott of the election has succeeded."

He said that starting on Sunday morning, the final act of the government-arranged electoral drama would be performed. The noteworthy aspect is that, as we have been stating for the past year, the people of Bangladesh have rejected this government, and they demonstrated this today in front of the entire nation by abstaining from voting.

The leader of the BNP stated that they had remarkably noticed that in the past ten years, the government has elevated democracy to the point that hundreds of polling places were vacant during the election. "This is the actuality of the farce held in the context of the 12th parliamentary election in Bangladesh."

In response to a query, he stated that they have received a resounding amount of support from the public as they have been conducting their democratic and nonviolent protest against the government. "We'll carry on our movement in a nonviolent manner alongside the people."

Dr. Moyeen claimed that by holding such a ridiculous election, the Awami League had not only misled the people of the country but even its party leaders. "This election's results won't be favourable."

"We do not believe in any fake and bogus election system in the name of democracy. Many people brand this government as an autocratic regime. People also call this regime by different names. I say this government is pretending to be a democracy. Governments that pretend to be democratic are far more dangerous than authoritarian ones,” the BNP leader said.

Moyeen feared that the government and the Election Commission would show an inflated figure of voter turnouts as they did in the last two national elections. “But that is not our concern as the people of the country and the entire world witnessed how the voters in Bangladesh turned down the election.”

He said even many supporters of the ruling party did not go to the polling stations as they knew the victory of their candidates was certain.

Voters in the Awami League are aware that our candidates have been elected and triumphed. Why should we make the unnecessary trip to the polls to waste time? Voters of the Awami League did not need to visit polling places.
