DHAKA, July 29 (V7N) – The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) of Bangladesh has filed a case against former Member of Parliament for Dhaka-16, Elias Uddin Mollah, and three former engineering officials, over allegations of illegally occupying seven acres of government land in the capital’s Mirpur area.
The case was registered on Monday at the ACC's Dhaka-1 office. The development was confirmed by ACC Director General Md. Akhter Hossain during a media briefing held later that day.
According to the official case statement, Elias Uddin Mollah is accused of misusing his political power and, in collusion with others, unlawfully seizing government-owned land in the Jhilmil area of Pallabi, Mirpur. The land—approximately seven acres—has reportedly been under illegal possession for the past 16 years.
The ACC alleges that the former MP collected rental income from the seized land over this period, misappropriating an estimated Tk 37.44 crore.
The other individuals named in the case are:
Md. Nurul Islam, former Executive Engineer of the National Housing Authority and Additional Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department
Kazi Md. Abu Hanif, former Executive Engineer of the National Housing Authority
Md. Harijur Rahman, former Sub-Divisional Engineer (Dhaka Division-1)
Investigators believe the accused acted in collaboration, facilitating long-term illegal occupation of the property and defrauding the state of significant revenue through unauthorized lease and rent collection.
The ACC emphasized that this case is part of its broader strategy to hold public officials accountable for corruption and the illegal use of state resources. Legal proceedings are expected to follow in accordance with national anti-corruption laws.
