Dhaka, Jan 23 (V7N) — A total of 127.711 million citizens of Bangladesh will have the opportunity to exercise their voting rights in the 13th National Parliament elections and the referendum on state reforms, according to the Election Commission (EC).
The EC confirmed the information on Thursday (January 22) after releasing the final constituency-wise voter list.
EC Secretariat Director (Public Relations) Md. Ruhul Amin Mallick said that among the total voters, 64.825 million are male, 62.885 million are female, and 1,120 are transgender voters.
As the parliamentary elections and the referendum will be held on the same day, the Election Commission is placing special emphasis on election management this time.
According to constituency-wise voter distribution data, Gazipur-2 has the highest number of voters, totaling 84.333, while Jhalakathi-1 has the lowest, with 228.431 voters.
The EC Secretariat said that the printing of ballot papers and preparations of polling stations based on voter numbers in each constituency are progressing rapidly. Since voters will be required to vote on two separate issues, the Commission has cautioned that additional time and careful management may be necessary during voting and vote counting.
Meanwhile, to strictly enforce the electoral code of conduct, the EC reiterated that collecting National Identity Cards (NIDs) or promising gifts or benefits to voters constitutes a punishable offense. The Commission also stated that it is prepared to immediately implement court orders or decisions related to candidacy complications.
The EC noted that the participation of new voters and the opportunity for expatriates to vote are expected to add a new dimension to this election. Regular coordination meetings with law enforcement agencies are being held to ensure voter safety and a free, fair, and transparent voting process.
