Comilla, Jan 31 (V7N) — National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam has warned that the people of Bangladesh will resist any attempt by hegemonic forces to sabotage the upcoming national elections, recalling the resistance seen during the July movement.
He made the remarks while addressing an election rally at Chauddagram Upazila Ground in Comilla on Saturday.
Nahid Islam said that if an 11-party coalition government is formed through the elections, ensuring justice for the July massacre and the assassination of Sharif Osman Hadi will be given the highest priority.
He alleged that a neighboring country is repeatedly trying to interfere in Bangladesh’s politics, adding that the people, not any hegemonic power, will decide who governs the country in the future.
Meanwhile, Khilafat Majlis Amir Maulana Mamunul Haque criticized what he described as contradictory political positions, saying that one party is publicly calling for a ‘yes’ vote while secretly campaigning for a ‘no’ vote, which he said the people would not accept.
He further claimed that a nationwide mass movement in favor of the 11-party alliance is emerging, stating that after numerous historic movements and uprisings, the people no longer want old-style or dynastic politics.
The rally was attended by leaders and activists of the alliance parties, who reiterated their call for political change and unity ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections.
