Comilla, Feb 01 (V7N) — Hasnat Abdullah, NCP leader and the 11-party alliance–nominated candidate in the Comilla-4 constituency, has said that the people of Bangladesh have risen up against those who come to serve the people during election seasons by spending public money.
Speaking to reporters on Sunday after the Appellate Division upheld the cancellation of BNP candidate Manjurul Ahsan Munshi’s candidacy, Hasnat Abdullah said that no matter how powerful loan defaulters may be, they will not be able to escape accountability.
He said many candidates or rivals in different constituencies could have raised similar issues, but refrained due to security concerns or fear of harassment by various agencies.
Referring to his own experience, Hasnat Abdullah said, “When I filed the case, my lawyers were intimidated in various ways. Attempts were also made to intimidate me. But Hasnat Abdullah will never bow to intimidation.”
He added, “I do not see this as a rivalry between candidates. I see this as a war between Bangladesh and the general public against loan defaulters and bank looters.”
Hasnat Abdullah said he initiated this fight to send a clear message across the country that those who stand on the side of justice and the rule of law will ultimately prevail.
“No matter how powerful the bank robbers and loan defaulters are, in the end Bangladesh and its people will win,” he said.
Commenting on the cancellation of Manjurul Ahsan Munshi’s candidacy, Hasnat Abdullah alleged that Munshi is a loan defaulter of more than Tk 130 crore.
“He took loans exceeding Tk 130 crore in 2004–05 and has not repaid them even in 2026. He repeatedly attempted to cross the electoral barrier by going to the High Court,” he said.
Hasnat Abdullah further noted that Munshi was also unable to contest the 2008 national election due to the same issue.
