Dhaka, Feb 8 (V7N) — Bangladesh Television (BTV) will begin airing speeches of political leaders from February 8 as part of pre-election programming, officials confirmed. The broadcasts will be shown in a continuous schedule over the coming days.
According to BTV sources, four party leaders requested airtime, and the state-run broadcaster has allocated time slots for them. No other parties have submitted requests for speech broadcasts so far.
The schedule is as follows: on February 8 (Sunday), Mamunul Haque, Amir of the Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis, will be aired from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm, followed by Nahid Islam, convener of the National Citizens Party (NCP), from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm. On February 9 (Monday), Shafiqur Rahman, Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami, will be broadcast from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm, and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
Notably, in the last three national elections, top leaders’ speeches were not broadcast on state media. The last time political leaders’ addresses were aired on BTV was in 2008, during the military-backed caretaker government.
