Faridpur, Mar 08 (V7N) – Nahid Islam, convener of the National Citizens Party (NCP), warned that any attempt to rehabilitate fascists in the name of the Liberation War, March 7, or Sheikh Mujibur Rahman would not be accepted by the people of Bangladesh.

He made the remarks while addressing an Iftar Mahfil organized by the NCP at Ambika Maidan in Faridpur on Saturday.

Nahid Islam said there would be no forgiveness for fascists and that those responsible for past crimes must face justice. “Fascists and their accomplices will be tried on this Bengali soil. The murderers who killed Osman Hadi must also face trial here. We will stand against anyone who obstructs justice, and the people of Bangladesh will stand with us,” he said.

He added that the Liberation War is part of Bangladesh’s glorious history, but alleged that certain groups had tried to legitimize their misdeeds—including plunder, killings, disappearances, and genocide—in the name of Sheikh Mujib, March 7, and the Liberation War over the past 16 years.

“We still see similar attempts today. Such actions will not succeed. Come forward for reforms, justice, and building a new Bangladesh. We want to move the country forward,” he said.

Addressing the government, Nahid Islam alleged that during the tenure of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, state institutions—including the judiciary, administration, and police—had become partisan. He claimed similar trends were continuing under the current administration.

He also criticized the recent election held after the July Uprising, saying it had been conducted with new public expectations but later faced various questions and controversies. According to him, the government party had betrayed the aspirations of the July Uprising and the promises of the July Charter.
