BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed the party’s moral support for the ongoing movements by public university teachers and students based on their justified demands. At a press conference on Saturday, he refuted claims from ruling party leaders that BNP is inciting these protests against the new universal pension scheme "Prottoy" and the reinstatement of the quota system in government jobs.
Fakhrul stated that BNP, as a responsible political party, must respond to significant incidents within the country. He emphasized that the teachers and students are conducting their movements independently, and BNP supports them morally. He called on the government to address the protesters' demands by rescinding the "Prottoy" pension scheme for teachers and reducing the current 56% quota in government jobs to a reasonable level.
