Dhaka, July 17 (V7N)- The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), along with other parties involved in the simultaneous movement, has announced the holding of gayebana janazas across the country on Wednesday for the students killed in the ongoing quota reform movement. This was declared by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir during a press conference at the BNP Chairperson’s Gulshan office on Tuesday, following a meeting with leaders of Ganatantra Mancha.

In Dhaka, the main gayebana janaza will be conducted at the north gate of the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque after Zuhr prayers. Similar programs will be held nationwide.

“The leaders and workers of all political parties involved in the simultaneous movement will participate in gayebana janazas tomorrow (Wednesday) at Baitul Mukarram Mosque after Zuhr prayers to pray for the salvation of the souls of those killed today,” Fakhrul stated.

Fakhrul also read out a joint declaration of the political parties involved in the movement, placing the blame for the recent violence squarely on the government and the ruling party. He alleged that directives from the highest levels of government had led to Chhatra League countering the peaceful student movement, thereby creating the grounds for the tragic incidents.

He accused the government of perpetuating state-sponsored terror and violence. “We strongly condemn and protest against it,” Fakhrul declared, demanding immediate legal action against over a hundred ruling party cadres involved in the violence. He emphasized the need for their arrest within 24 hours.

Fakhrul expressed deep sorrow for those who lost their lives due to police firings and attacks by Chhatra League, extending sympathy to the families of the deceased and the many injured journalists. He urged the government to address the demands of the quota protesters and called on the people of Bangladesh to support the students' just demands.

Earlier, a BNP delegation led by Fakhrul met with leaders from Ganosamhati Andolon, Nagarik Oikya, Bangladesh-er Biplobi Workers Party, Bhashani Onusari Parishad, and Rasta Songskar Andolon to discuss the movement.

BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury and BNP Vice Chairman Barkatullah Bulu were also present at the meeting.
