Dhaka, July 17 (V7N) – The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has declared full support for the nationwide shutdown scheduled for Thursday, organized by the Anti-discrimination Student Movement in response to attacks on university campuses that have led to at least six fatalities.

BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced the party's backing during a virtual press briefing on Wednesday night.

Rizvi stated that the decision to support the shutdown was made during a BNP standing committee meeting, and he urged people from all sectors to participate in the shutdown to ensure its success.

Hasnat Abdulla, coordinator of the Anti-discrimination Student Movement, earlier declared the nationwide "Complete Shutdown" for Thursday, demanding justice for the deceased and calling for campuses free from terrorism.

Abdulla specified that all institutions, except hospitals and emergency services, would remain closed. Only ambulances will be allowed on the roads.

"We call on students from all educational institutions, including schools, colleges, universities, private universities, and madrasas, to make the shutdown successful," Abdullah stated.

The shutdown follows a series of clashes resulting in at least six deaths, predominantly students.
