Dhaka, August 3- Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has established a three-member team from the Awami League to engage with coordinators of the ongoing anti-quota movement. The team will consist of Presidium Member Advocate Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif, and Agronomist AFM Bahauddin Nashim. Their task is to coordinate discussions with the movement’s leaders and explore potential resolutions.
This decision came following an emergency meeting at Ganobhaban on Friday night, which included key party figures such as General Secretary Obaidul Quader, Presidium Members Mustafa Jalal Mohiuddin and Advocate Kamrul Islam, Law Minister Anisul Haque, and others.
In the meeting, the Awami League President emphasized the need for careful and tolerant handling of the protests. The team, including senior leaders from the 14-party alliance, is tasked with discussing the students’ demands, which include a reformed quota system and a judicial inquiry into recent casualties. The Awami League has already reformed the quota system and established a committee to investigate the incidents.
The reaction of the anti-quota movement’s coordinators to this initiative is currently unknown, including whether they will engage with the appointed team.
