Dhaka, Aug 06 (V7N) — On Monday, (Agu 05) Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced that an interim government will be swiftly established following the dissolution of Parliament, with plans to hold elections within three months.
 
Fakhrul made the statement after a meeting with President Sahabuddin Ahmed at Bangabhaban. He also assured that BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia would be released "without any delay."
 
The announcement came shortly after Sheikh Hasina departed the country, ending her 16-year tenure. Fakhrul, along with other opposition leaders, a three-member team of student representatives, and the heads of the three services, met at Bangabhaban to discuss the evolving political situation and potential solutions.
 
Following the meeting, Fakhrul addressed the media, expressing gratitude to students and the public for their role in the movement's success. He outlined the major decisions discussed, including the dissolution of Parliament, the formation of an interim government, and the scheduling of elections within three months. Additionally, Fakhrul confirmed that Begum Khaleda Zia would be released within two days.
 
The BNP Secretary General also stated that those arrested in connection with the movement, including students, ordinary citizens, and political leaders, would be released, and any false charges against them would be withdrawn.
 
In response to questions, Fakhrul mentioned that the President is expected to address the nation soon, outlining the framework of the new government and its plans for the future.
