The Chief Adviser of the interim government, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, began discussions with senior leaders of the BNP on Monday afternoon.
Led by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the BNP standing committee members arrived at the Chief Adviser’s residence at 4 pm for the meeting. Sayrul Kabir Khan, a member of the BNP media cell, confirmed that Dr. Yunus had extended the invitation to the BNP leaders.
This meeting marks the first formal dialogue between the interim government’s head and BNP leaders since the government was formed on August 8.
BNP standing committee members present at the meeting included Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Mirza Abbas, Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan, Salahuddin Ahmed, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, among others.
The interim government, led by Nobel laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus, was established after former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fled the country, following her resignation in the wake of a student-led mass movement.
