Dhaka, Sep 06 (V7N)- Shajahan Khan, a former minister and presidium member of the Awami League, was arrested on Thursday night in the Dhanmondi area of the capital. His arrest was confirmed by Dhaka Metropolitan Intelligence Police Joint Commissioner (North), Rabiul Hossain Bhuiya.

Shajahan Khan, a long-serving member of the Bangladesh Sramik Federation, has been a prominent figure in national politics for decades. He has represented Madaripur-2 Constituency in the Jatiya Sangsad (National Parliament) for eight consecutive terms, first being elected in 1986 as an independent candidate. In subsequent elections from 1991 through 2024, he was re-elected on the Awami League ticket, serving as Minister of Shipping during his tenure.

His arrest marks a significant development in the political landscape, especially given his long-standing influence in the country's labour movements and the Bangladesh Awami League. Further details surrounding the arrest and the charges have yet to be disclosed.
