Rangamati, Feb 27, (V7N) – A farmer was killed in an elephant attack in the Rajasthali area of Rangamati. The incident took place on Thursday afternoon in Kaitak Para village of Gaindya Union. The deceased, 45-year-old Usching Marma, was the son of late Kayo Marma.
According to the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rajasthali Police Station, Iqbal Bahar Chowdhury, Usching Marma was on his way to his field when he was attacked by a wild elephant. He was crushed under the elephant's foot and severely injured, dying at the scene. Local residents later recovered his body and took it to the hospital, where he was declared dead.
Usching's son, Mongchhai Marma, mentioned that their banana farm work was ongoing in Kaitak Para, and his father was heading to the farm when the elephant attacked. His father died instantly at the site.
Lawmuching Marma, a member of the Gaindya Union Council, stated that wild elephants often come into local areas in search of food. On Thursday morning, when a herd of elephants came to eat banana plants, Usching Marma was caught by them and was trampled to death.
