Tongi, Dec 20 (V7N) — A case has been filed in connection with the deadly clashes at the Bishwa Ijtema ground in Tongi, which resulted in four deaths and left fifty injured. Police have arrested Moaz Bin Noor, a follower of Maulana Saad Kandhalvi, as part of the investigation.

Habib Iskandar, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tongi West Police Station under Gazipur Metropolitan Police, confirmed the arrest on Friday morning. Moaz was apprehended during a raid in the Uttara area of Dhaka on Thursday night. He is the fifth accused in the case.

Moaz Bin Noor, a resident of Sector 7 in Uttara, has familial ties to Dhaka's Khilkhet area, where his mother resides.

The case, filed late Thursday night by SM Alam Hossain, a follower of Maulana Zubair, accuses 29 named individuals and hundreds of unidentified others. Alam Hossain, the son of the late SM Moktar Hossain of Gaital village in Kishoreganj Sadar upazila, is also a companion of the Almi Shura in his district.

The violent clash erupted on the night of December 18 between supporters of Maulana Zubair and Maulana Saad Kandhalvi over control of the Bishwa Ijtema ground. The conflict turned deadly, claiming four lives and injuring many others.

Police continue to investigate the incident, and further arrests are expected as authorities work to identify and apprehend those involved in the clashes.
