Dhaka, Dec 24 (V7N) — The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has announced a ban on bursting crackers, flying lanterns, and fireworks in the capital to ensure a peaceful celebration of Christmas, the biggest religious festival for Christians, on Wednesday, December 25.

The prohibition, issued under Section 28 of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance (Ordinance No. III/76), will be in effect from midnight on Tuesday, December 24, until midnight on Wednesday, December 25.

The announcement came through a press release signed by DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali on Tuesday. The notice emphasised the need for maintaining solemnity and safety during the festivities.

The DMP has called for the cooperation of all Dhaka residents in observing the festival smoothly and safely. Residents are requested to refrain from activities involving fireworks, firecrackers, and lanterns during the designated period.

Christmas celebrations across Dhaka are expected to proceed with traditional joy and devotion, with heightened security measures in place to ensure a harmonious observance of the holiday.
