Dhaka, Jan 06 (V7N) — The interim government has described the vandalism at house number 32 in Dhanmondi, a site deeply associated with the memory of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, as "unintended and undesirable." In a statement issued on Thursday afternoon via the Chief Advisor's verified Facebook page, the government also emphasized that it does not want such incidents to occur again.
The statement acknowledged that the attack was linked to public anger sparked by remarks made by Sheikh Hasina while in exile in India. According to the government, her statements regarding the July coup had provoked deep resentment, which led to last night's incident.
"There has been no attack or vandalism at house number 32 in the past six months. However, following Sheikh Hasina’s recent speech, the situation escalated," the statement said. It also accused Sheikh Hasina of making derogatory remarks about the July Uprising, which allegedly fueled public outrage.
The government reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order, stating that law enforcement agencies were working to stabilize the situation. It further urged India not to allow Sheikh Hasina to use its territory to incite unrest in Bangladesh.
Additionally, the interim government reaffirmed its commitment to bringing those responsible for the July massacre to justice. It stated that legal measures would be considered against individuals involved in provocative activities.
