Chattogram, Feb 10 (V7N) - Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) is set to initiate an intensive road repair campaign to alleviate public suffering, announced Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain. He directed the immediate resumption of halted projects across all zones within three days and visible progress within three months.
The announcement came during a meeting with the engineering department at the CCC office in Tiger Pass on Monday.
"We must complete road repairs promptly. Quality and durable repairs will be ensured to reduce the inconvenience faced by city residents," said Mayor Dr. Shahadat. "Priority will be given to repairing damaged main roads and alleyways in Chattogram. Halted projects must resume within three days, and noticeable development should be achieved within three months."
He further emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in repair activities. "Regular monitoring will be conducted to ensure transparency. We are committed to taking swift and effective steps to free residents from their current inconveniences," he added.
The mayor issued a stern warning against negligence in road repair work. "Contractors who fail to deliver on their commitments will have their work orders canceled. Engineers neglecting their duties will face disciplinary action. If there is a manpower shortage, recruit new staff and procure necessary equipment to expedite the repair works," he instructed.
Mayor Dr. Shahadat also stressed the importance of using high-quality materials for sustainable solutions rather than temporary fixes. "No irregularities or corruption will be tolerated in projects funded by taxpayers' money," he asserted.
He urged the installation of road signs and awareness messages at key roads and intersections to ensure the safe movement of pedestrians and vehicles. "Proper guidance must be followed to reduce traffic congestion and accidents," he added.
Officials from the engineering department and other relevant personnel assured the mayor that they would take the necessary measures to implement his directives.
Key attendees included Sheikh Mohammad Touhidul Islam, Chief Executive Officer of CCC; Md. Ashraful Amin, Secretary; Md. Anisur Rahman, Project Director of "Airport Road and Other Infrastructure Development Project"; and Supervising Engineer Farhadul Alam along with other engineers.
