Dhaka, Mar 13 (V7N) – The government has decided to recruit 2,000 doctors through a special BCS in an effort to address the shortage of medical professionals in the country. This announcement was made by Professor Sayedur Rahman, Special Assistant to the Ministry of Health, at a press conference held at the Secretariat on Thursday.

As part of the recruitment process, the government has proposed increasing the maximum age limit for doctors appearing in the BCS exam from 32 to 34 years. This move aims to provide more opportunities for aspiring medical professionals who were previously ineligible due to age restrictions.

During the press conference, Professor Sayedur Rahman also addressed the recent strike by doctors, stating that their long-standing frustrations stemmed from being deprived under the previous administration. He assured that the interim government is taking their demands seriously and will work towards addressing their concerns as soon as possible.

Following assurances from the government, doctors have withdrawn from their protest. However, some intern doctors and medical students remain absent from their duties. The government has urged them to return and fulfill their responsibilities in the interest of public healthcare.

In a significant development, Professor Sayedur Rahman also revealed that the Health Protection Act—aimed at safeguarding both doctors and patients—will be submitted to the Advisory Council within the next two to three weeks. This legislation is expected to improve working conditions for healthcare professionals while ensuring better medical services for citizens.

With these measures, the government hopes to strengthen the healthcare system, improve medical facilities, and provide a more secure environment for doctors across the country.
