Dhaka, Oct 14 (V7N) — The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has initiated steps to issue red notices through Interpol to bring back fugitive individuals accused of corruption, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her family members, ACC Chairman Abdul Momen said on Tuesday (October 14).
He made the remarks while inaugurating a workshop organized for members of Reporters Against Corruption (RAC) — a network of journalists working closely with the ACC — at the commission’s headquarters in Dhaka.
“The ACC is taking action to ensure that no one involved in corruption remains beyond the reach of justice. We have begun the process of issuing Interpol red notices against fugitive corrupt individuals, including members of the former prime minister’s family,” Momen stated.
The ACC chief alleged that during the Awami League regime, several influential businessmen and political figures engaged in widespread corruption, severely damaging the nation’s economy and institutions. “The ACC is investigating these cases without fear or favor,” he added.
Calling for integrity in politics, the ACC Chairman urged political parties to refrain from nominating corrupt individuals in the upcoming national elections. “We must ensure that people with proven records of corruption do not return to positions of power,” he said.
