Sylhet, Nov 23 (V7N)- Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Dr. Abdul Momen has said that candidates must disclose their foreign assets in addition to domestic assets in their election affidavits. He made the remarks while speaking to journalists after inaugurating the foundation stone of the ACC Sylhet divisional office on Sunday morning.
Dr. Momen stated that excluding foreign assets from affidavits would be “unfair and incomplete,” adding that the ACC will take firm action against individuals possessing unearned or unexplained wealth.
Addressing the limitations faced by the commission, the ACC chairman recalled a previous investigation involving Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s agricultural property. “In 2008, Sheikh Hasina declared 5.21 acres of agricultural land. However, an ACC inquiry uncovered 29 acres. Although the investigation found the discrepancy, no action was taken at that time,” he said.
Dr. Momen emphasized the need for transparency, accountability, and stronger institutional capacity to ensure that corruption-related offenses are addressed effectively.
