Dhaka, Nov 29 (V7N) — The meeting of the Interim Government Advisory Council was held on Saturday morning at the Chief Advisor’s Office in Tejgaon, with Chief Advisor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus presiding.

According to the Chief Advisor’s Press Wing, a special prayer session was conducted during the meeting for the speedy recovery of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia. The supplication was led by Religious Advisor AFM Khalid Hossain.

Foreign Donations Regulation Amendment Approved

The meeting approved, in principle and finally, the draft of the Foreign Donations (Voluntary Activities) Regulation (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025.
Key points of the amendment include:

  • Simplification of the NGO registration process

  • Relaxation of restrictions on donation clearance

  • No approval required for receiving foreign donations up to Tk 50 lakh per year

  • Making the law more stakeholder-friendly

Several sections of the previous law have been revised under the amendment.

Police Commission Ordinance Discussed

The draft of the Police Commission Ordinance, 2025 was also placed before the meeting.
The Advisory Council instructed that the draft be brought back in the next meeting in a more detailed and revised form.

Update on UAE Detainees

Expatriate Welfare Advisor Dr. Asif Nazrul informed the council that the remaining 24 Bangladeshis imprisoned at different times in the United Arab Emirates over their involvement in the July uprising are expected to be released soon.

He added that the released individuals are likely to return home within two to three days.
