Savar, Feb 18 (V7N) — Newly elected Prime Minister Tarique Rahman paid homage to the martyrs of the Great Liberation War by laying a wreath at the National Martyrs' Memorial on Wednesday morning.

He placed flowers at the memorial’s altar at around 11 am, followed by a minute of silence in honor of the fallen heroes. After offering tribute as Prime Minister, he laid another wreath along with members of the newly formed cabinet.

The Prime Minister later signed the memorial’s visitor book as the country’s 11th Prime Minister and planted a tree on the premises, continuing the long-standing tradition.

Following the ceremony, Tarique Rahman is scheduled to visit the graves of his father, former President Ziaur Rahman, and his mother, former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, to pay respects.

He is expected to proceed to the Secretariat in the afternoon to attend a series of official meetings.
