Tangail, Apr 14 (V7N) – Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has arrived in Tangail to inaugurate the ‘Farmer Card’ program on the first day of Pahela Baishakh.
The Prime Minister’s motorcade departed from his residence in Gulshan, Dhaka, at around 9:00 am on Tuesday (April 14). He is attending the inauguration ceremony at Shaheed Maruf Stadium in Tangail Sadar Upazila, where the program has already commenced.
The ‘Farmer Card’ is one of the key election pledges of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). As part of its commitments, the government has previously introduced initiatives such as the Family Card, Sports Card, and canal excavation programs.
Agriculture Minister Amin Ur Rashid said that the initial pre-pilot phase of the program will be implemented in 11 agricultural blocks across the country. A total of 20,671 landless, marginal, and small farmers will receive the ‘Farmer Card’ in this phase.
Under the scheme, beneficiaries will receive an annual cash support of Tk 2,500 through the card, aimed at assisting farmers and strengthening the agricultural sector.
