Tangail, Apr 14 (V7N) – Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has officially launched the distribution of ‘Farmer Cards’ among farmers on the occasion of Pahela Baishakh.

The program was inaugurated at Shaheed Maruf Stadium in Tangail at around 12:30 pm on Tuesday (April 14).

During the event, the Prime Minister handed over Farmer Cards and tree saplings to 15 beneficiaries. He announced that an initial phase will cover 22,065 landless, marginal, and small farmers, who will receive annual cash assistance of Tk 2,500 through the program.

Earlier in the day, he departed from his residence in Gulshan, Dhaka, around 9:00 am. Supporters and party activists reportedly greeted him along the route to Tangail.

According to officials, the Farmer Card distribution is also being simultaneously carried out in several districts, including Panchagarh, Bogra, Jhenaidah, Pirojpur, Cox’s Bazar, Rajbari, Moulvibazar, and Jamalpur. The government has allocated approximately Tk 83.4 million for the pilot phase of the program.

The Farmer Card initiative is described as part of the government’s rural support strategy and is considered one of the key election commitments of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), alongside earlier initiatives such as family cards and sports cards.
