Dhaka, Apr 23 (V7N) — The Election Commission of Bangladesh has declared the nomination papers of all 36 candidates nominated by the ruling Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) for reserved women’s seats in the 13th National Parliament as valid.

Verification completed

The decision came after scrutiny of nomination papers on Thursday. The EC also said that appeals can be filed until April 26 if there are any objections.

Independent candidate approved

The nomination of Sultana Jasmine Jui, representing the Independent Alliance, has also been declared valid. She is a former vice-president of the central committee of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and an alumna of University of Dhaka.

Seat distribution

There are 50 reserved women’s seats in Parliament. Based on proportional allocation:

  • BNP-led alliance: 36 seats

  • Jamaat-led 11-party alliance: 13 seats

  • Independents: 1 seat

Each reserved seat is allocated against every six general seats held.

Election schedule

The election for these reserved seats is scheduled to be held on May 12.

Outlook

With nominations validated, the process now moves toward the final election phase, which will determine representation in the reserved women’s seats of the 13th National Parliament.
