Khulna, May 20 (V7N) — Health Minister Sardar Sakhawat Hossain has said that the country’s measles outbreak has declined and the situation is expected to return to normal soon, as the government has taken rapid steps to strengthen vaccination efforts.
The minister made the remarks on Wednesday (May 20) afternoon while visiting Khulna Medical College Hospital, where he also inspected rooms damaged in a recent fire incident.
He claimed that the government has acted promptly to contain the measles outbreak and ensure vaccine availability across affected areas.
Sardar Sakhawat Hossain further alleged that the health sector had suffered from widespread irregularities during the previous Awami League government, adding that even the current interim administration had not taken adequate action on those issues.
During his visit, the minister directed a five-member investigation committee to submit a report within 24 hours regarding the hospital fire. He also instructed authorities to quickly assess damages and ensure replacement of essential medical equipment.
Earlier on Wednesday morning, a fire broke out on the third floor of Khulna Medical College Hospital. Fire service units managed to bring the blaze under control after about an hour of effort.
